GOODREADS SYNOPSIS:
A new adventure about a girl who is fated to wash the bodies of the dead in this companion to Furthermore.
Our story begins on a frosty night…
Laylee can barely remember the happier times before her beloved mother died. Before her father, driven by grief, lost his wits (and his way). Before she was left as the sole remaining mordeshoor in the village of Whichwood, destined to spend her days washing the bodies of the dead and preparing their souls for the afterlife. It’s become easy to forget and easier still to ignore the way her hands are stiffening and turning silver, just like her hair, and her own ever-increasing loneliness and fear.
But soon, a pair of familiar strangers appears, and Laylee’s world is turned upside down as she rediscovers color, magic, and the healing power of friendship.
MY THOUGHTS:
This book, oh this book was stunning! I recently read Furthermore and thought it was amazing, but this… this book was even better! I love that it had a dark, almost creepy feel to it. It was so unique and perfect, maybe we should call this a GUSH instead of a review. I loved Laylee as a character, she was wonderful, and of course all of the other characters were perfect for the story.
I loved the world-building. I felt like I was in Whichwood, like I could look around and see the castle Laylee lives in. I enjoyed every part of this book, from the story to the writing. My favorite part is that a narrator tells you the story not any of the characters. I feel like it gives such a breath of fresh air, just like in Furthermore.
Overall I loved this book almost more than words can say. It is by face one of my favorites of the year, maybe even top 10 of all time. I recommend this book to anyone and everyone… just go… get it now and come back to say thank you! LOLOL
Ahh I’m so glad you enjoyed it! I haven’t read Furthermore or Whichwood yet but I hope to do so soon. Great review!!
