GOODREADS SYNOPSIS:
Geek girl Elle Wittimer lives and breathes Starfield, the classic science-fiction series she grew up watching with her late father. So when she sees a cosplay contest for a new Starfield movie, she has to enter. The prize? An invitation to the ExcelsiCon Cosplay Ball and a meet-and-greet with the actor slated to play Federation Prince Carmindor in the reboot. With savings from her gig at the Magic Pumpkin food truck and her dad’s old costume, Elle’s determined to win – unless her stepsisters get there first.
Teen actor Darien Freeman used to live for cons – before he was famous. Now they’re nothing but autographs and awkward meet-and-greets. Playing Carmindor is all he has ever wanted, but Starfield fandom has written him off as just another dumb heartthrob. As ExcelsiCon draws near, Darien feels more and more like a fake – until he meets a girl who shows him otherwise. But when she disappears at midnight, will he ever be able to find her again?
Part-romance, part-love letter to nerd culture, and all totally adorbs, Geekerella is a fairy tale for anyone who believes in the magic of fandom.
MY THOUGHTS:
If the synopsis of this book doesn’t just pull you in by your shirt collar, then we probably aren’t friends! (haha JK) The plot was so perfect for lovers of cons and romance all wrapped up in one. If you are big into science fiction, and ComicCon I would see you adoring this book. I loved all the talk of the Starfield, which was being made into a movie. The descriptions of the Cosplay contest and Ball was just everything! There was great flow to the story and I kept just wanting more.
The characters Elle, Sage, and Darien were lovely. They were unique and I felt like I really got to know them all. Darien’s insecurities made him much more relatable than I thought he would be. Elle, she was perfection! She was socially awkward in the best way possible, and very self sufficient. I loved her and Sage’s friendship and how it became such a wonderful part of the story. The way Elle and Darien met was extremely cute and millennial, and I loved all the text conversations they had. BEST PART: NO INSTA-LOVE!!! Romance, yes, insta-love not so much, just the way I like it.
I was a huge fan of this book from beginning to end. The relationships (friendship, romance, family) were tense at points but really brought life to the story. I’m very happy to hear that there will be more to the story, because the thought of it being done just made me sad. Do yourself a favor and jump all over this one!

I’m not a ComicCon fan so this didn’t really pull me in. Saying that, I’m happy to see so many variations these days on the typical love story.

Awesome review! I loved this book too! I agree with you completely on the wonderful friendships in this book such as between Sage and Elle. I really liked the character of Gail too. I loved the gradual relationship between Darien and Elle too and their text messages were my favourite parts of the book! It was such a great read. I did a review of it on my blog too 🙂
