GOODREADS SYNOPSIS:

Set in an America where half the population has been silenced, VOX is the harrowing, unforgettable story of what one woman will do to protect herself and her daughter.

On the day the government decrees that women are no longer allowed more than 100 words daily, Dr. Jean McClellan is in denial—this can’t happen here. Not in America. Not to her.

This is just the beginning.

Soon women can no longer hold jobs. Girls are no longer taught to read or write. Females no longer have a voice. Before, the average person spoke sixteen thousand words a day, but now women only have one hundred to make themselves heard.

But this is not the end.

For herself, her daughter, and every woman silenced, Jean will reclaim her voice.

MY THOUGHTS:

Vox had one of the most scary, creepy, unique plots in a book that I have ever read. I thought it gave a good show of how people can and will conform and how others will revolt in their own ways. There were so many points where I was wondering what I would do in many of these situations.

The resent between almost every character is palpable especially between the Jean and her husband. This makes complete sense because who wouldn’t resent there partner who could speak as many words they want during the day while they only get to speak 100 words. I was very find of the main character Jean she was very smart and would do anything for other people that she loves. She was very protective of her children and I love that about her.

I found the scientific information extremely interesting, you can tell that a lot of research went into writing this book. I enjoyed the fact that each chapter switched between the past and the present because you get a real sense of the whole story as it’s happening and has happened. As opposed to just being told what has happened in the past. Overall, I highly recommend this book, it was a great read.
