MY GOODREADS RATING 5/5 STARS
GOODREADS SYNOPSIS:
Defeated, crushed, and driven almost to extinction, the remnants of the human race are trapped on a planet that is constantly attacked by mysterious alien starfighters. Spensa, a teenage girl living among them, longs to be a pilot. When she discovers the wreckage of an ancient ship, she realizes this dream might be possible—assuming she can repair the ship, navigate flight school, and (perhaps most importantly) persuade the strange machine to help her. Because this ship, uniquely, appears to have a soul.
MY THOUGHTS:
This is the first book I’ve read by Brandon Sanderson. I’ve heard so many amazing things about all of his books I didn’t even know where to begin. I’m glad I started here because it was a bit slower paced (world and character building) than what I think his adult novels would be. I absolutely loved this book and that would probably be an understatement.
Spensa was an amazing main character. She was fearless, confident, and knew exactly what she wanted and how she was going to get it. I found myself laughing at the character’s dialogue quite a lot, because Spensa was one of the most humorous main characters I have ever read. The side characters are pretty great in this one as well we had a bit of every type of personality yet they all seem to mesh well.
If you are looking for somewhere to start when reading Brandon Sanderson‘s books I think this would be a great place. It’s a young adult novel so it’s not as fantasy-based as his other is most likely are. I like that I can follow exactly what’s going on and I enjoyed it very much.
Woo! I’m glad you enjoyed it! Sanderson is one my favourite authors. His writing here is similar to his adult books, so I’d definitely recommend continuing with his work 🙂

Ahh that’s great to know I wondered if his adult books would be harder to follow 🙂

Nice review. Glad that you liked Sanderson. You should check out his Mistborn trilogy next. It’s just brilliant. It would mean a lot if you checked out my review as well.
